Round 4 National Trophy

Race report from supported rider Daniel Barnes D1

D2 Sunday was round 4 of the National trophy series in Gravesend, Kent. The course was dry but became slippery after the practice laps, which meant that the off camber sections became more challenging. Lichfield had 3 out of 8 riders on the front row; me, Emile and Matt. I got a good start but didn’t want to lead because the start was a 900m tarmac section around the road circuit which we only did on the start loop but because of the wind, was hard. Into the first tricky section I was in 3rd and the riders behind had a big crash and the 3 of us got a gap. Some of the other riders behind were struggling to the pits before being able to get back into the race. The 3 of us pushed on hard but I couldn’t hold their pace and dropped off but managed to hold the gap out to Emile to take 3rd. I managed to bunny hop the 40cm hurdles which I’ve never managed in a race before. I’m extremely happy with this result because it’s my first ever national podium finish and I’m now in 3rd overall in the National trophy series. It was great to have 3 Lichfield riders finishing top 10.
