West Midlands Regional CX Champs

Race report from supported rider Toby Barnes T1

T2Yesterday was the West Midlands Champs near Worcester. It was a windy day with some drizzle in the morning, but during course practice, the bike tyres were not picking up too much mud so it was not going to be a race with pit changes. At the start of the race, a group of about 9 of us were together as no-one wanted to make a break with the wind being so strong. After a couple of laps, Lewis pushed on and we got a gap on the rest of the field which grew until the end of the race. With about 4 laps to go, Lewis attacked and I managed to get back to him. We were having a really good battle during the race as I was quickest through the technical off camber sections and Lewis was quickest on the power straights and we were both hopping the hurdles. Eventually, with 3 laps to go, I lost contact with his wheel just before a long straight section and he pulled out a gap. In the end he won by 5 seconds so I got silver, and it was a really great race to be part of.

Next weekend is the 5th round of the National Trophy series at Bradford.
