1,2,3 for Lichfield at CX Regional Champs

Amazing performance by Lichfield taking all three podium places at the Midlands Cyclo Cross Champs at the weekend. Race report from supported rider Daniel Barnes D1

d3 Sunday was the West Midlands regional championships held in Worcester at Top Barn. I was expecting mud before we got there but it was actually very dry and there wasn’t any mud, just a few slippery corners. I got a good start and lead into the first little mound, which because we were going fast off the start I jumped off, however I ended up very high in the air, landing on my front wheel and I thought I was going to go over the handle bars but I managed to hold it. As this happened I heard the other riders laughing and we all then got serious again for the race. A lead group including me, Emile, Matt and one other rider got away but for the first half of the race we were sharing the lead and going easy with nobody wanting to be in the front for the windy straights. But then the other rider (Simon) rolled his tub and as this happened I was pushing on and I got a gap over the other 2. Emile started to catch me but I pulled the gap back out to 7 seconds again by the end. I’m very happy with this race because it was the regional championships and this the first time I’ve ever won this even at any age. I’m also incredibly proud to have won a special medal in memory of Charlie Craig, this was presented by Adrian Elson, the commentator. Lichfield rode excellently and we got a 1,2,3 in the under 16’s race.
