2nd for Toby Barnes at the final round of the National Tropy

Some great riding from supported rider Toby Barnes T2Yesterday was the final round of the National Trophy series at Ipswich. The course was completely different to the last round at Bradford which was very muddy. The Ipswich course is very flat and dry so makes for some fast racing. There were a few added features such as a bridge, sand speed bump, 4x4 section and a part riding through a barn. I got a great start and lead the first half lap with the field all bunched up behind. Then going through the technical section with an off camber bank to ride up, the race split up. A group of 3 had a couple of seconds gap ahead of me so I had to really go for it to get back up to them as I knew if not then I wouldn’t have been able to do so later on in the race with the strong wind making it hard work if you were on your own. After the next couple of laps we had a good gap and then Lewis attacked and got about 10 seconds ahead. Myself and another rider were working hard to pull back the gap with another rider just about keeping in touch, occasionally dropping off a little bit.T1 After a couple more laps we had caught Lewis and were a group of 4 again. I made an attack and got a slight gap but was brought back. On the last lap Lewis managed to get away and had a good enough gap for us to sit up and race for second. I knew I had to lead into the barn on the last lap and so sprinted into it with a slight gap over the other 2. I held on to 2nd by less than half a second at the finish.T3 I am very happy with this result as even after the disappointing start to my season I have managed to finish 3rd overall in the National series. Next weekend is the National Championships in Hetton where I’ll be hoping to keep my form and get another good result. Toby Barnes
