WMCCL-Baggeridge

Race report from supported rider Daniel Barnes

This weekend’s WMCCL race was at Baggeridge and as anticipated from the rain in the few days before the race, it was very muddy.  It rained all day on Sunday and as my race is the last one of the day it got very muddy and slippery all over the course.  The mud stayed quite wet meaning I only needed to change bike once, with a lap and a half to go.  I got into the lead after half a lap and then began to pull away and got up to about a 7 second gap to 2nd.  Then a rider joined me on the 2nd lap and we were both making mistakes throughout the race but couldn’t manage to break each other. With just a couple of minutes to go I was behind Simon and made a small mistake so he attacked and then I gave it my all to get back to him.  He led into the last corner but on the exit I managed to pull back level and we had a drag race to the line which he managed to win as my legs were screaming out of the last corner kick to the line.  It was a really tough race but also really fun and still gives me confidence knowing I’m on good form going into this weekend’s GB race trip in Belgium.
