Lichfield District Council, Lichfield City Cycling Club and Born to Bike Cycling Club are proud to host City Centre Cycle Racing on Sunday 28 August 2011.
The event will feature the Regional Youth Circuit Championships as well as races for beginners, women only, for advanced 'elite' cyclists.
The cyclists in the different youth races, who live in the West Midlands, will also be competing for the regional champion's title. There are ten titles up for grabs across the different categories.
It will be a full day of racing, with the first race starting at 9.30am and the final race starting at 4pm.
Following the success of last year's event, the organisers have teamed up with KP Events to further develop the day of sporting action.
KP Events are well known as the organisers of the Lichfield Dash and the inaugural Lichfield Half Marathon, held in May 2011. They will be organising a number of running events on the day, using the same circuit as the cyclists.
The city centre race route will start on Market Street, following the road round to go past Boots onto Tamworth Street, and left into Sandford Street. It then turns left towards the Cross Keys car park and into Reeve Lane. The left turn into Dam Street from Reeve Lane will see last minute jostling for the lead position into the tight right turn back on to Market Street and the finish line. It is likely that the first person round this final right turn will be the race winner!
The roads of the route will be closed to traffic on 28 August 2011, from 8.45am until 6pm.
City Centre traders can expect to see an influx of cyclists, runners and their families, and are being encouraged to support the event. Café traders in particular are expected to benefit from the visitors to the city centre on this bank holiday weekend.
