Sad day

Postby MikeW » Sat Jun 23, 2012 6:23 pm

Just have to express how shocked and disappointed I was to see on the web site that there is likely to be a claim made against the club
A very sad day in the club's history in my opinion

I understand the need for the club to cancel the Curborough Friday nights until guidance has been sort but what is the world coming to?

In the meantime me and the boys will continue to ride and race knowing full well that at some time we will come off or get brought down-but we know the risks and live with it as I hope most of us do.

Mike. I just want to make it very clear that I am NOT making any claim against the club. I thought they handled the incident in an extremely professional manor. My claim is potentially against the Veldrome. I would never consider making a claim against the club or anyone in it. I hope this clears up this matter and there is no bad feeling within the club. Regards. Neil Martin.

I don't want to get involved in any debate about claims and who might be responsible for accidents. What I do dislike is this claim culture that seems to have come across from the US that encourages solicitors to get people to make claims when in the past we put the event down to experience.

The possibility of a claim has had to make the club consider the activities we promote and make sure that we do not put an individual in the position where they could be left exposed in the event of an accident. One solution for Friday nights MIGHT be to require all riders to have public liability insurance which would come from Gold or Silver membership of BC.

Neil (M)
Thanks for the clarification.
Inevitably the talk of litigation in and around cycling fills many of us with despair and disappointment and I think the action is likely to have significant ramifications which the club and individuals will need to respond to-we will see

So for me its very sad- I will continue to accept that I participate in a sport where accidents happen.

i do some shooting over the winter and we are increasingly asked to submit our insurance at 'signing on' before shooting starts.
this is included in one's membership of the two most popular associations and we quote our membership number.
hope the BC angle does this for us

The good thing about Friday nights at Curborough was the inclusivity. The drawback (for me) of a chain gang is cycling the last 90% by myself.

Very disappointed at the news- guess for me having raced motorcycles
From a very young age I was taught that any injury is simply a sporting incident.
Riders should sign a declaration simply stating that they are there of there own free will and if injury or death should and could occur no other rider or club shall be held accountable. I really don't see how it is possible to claim. Accidents happen, I know, I had severe spinal damage and have fully recovered. Moving forward I support the clubs decision to protect itself. It's sad and shouldn't need to. I'm not taking sides but pray that we do not become too afraid to ride, even on club runs, for fear of a claim being made. Cycling can be dangerous, accept that or take up golf. I was born on two wheels, dedicated and passionate and I feel the club is going to suffer. Keep up the good work & hope this situation is resolved swiftly. To the injured rider- take out your own injury policy if income needs to be protected. This is compulsary on international training camps. Vin

Your comments echo mine completely and I am sure are the same for most of the club.
