Race report from supported rider Toby Barnes

Yesterday I raced the 5th round of the National Trophy series in Ipswich. The course was different to previous years, missing out the long tarmac sections and barn area, but having more through the woods and 2 bridges. One of the bridges had big steps going up one side which I felt I was strong on, making up a few places running up them throughout the race. Gridded on the 2nd row, I had a good start and was about 12th at the end of the start straight. On the first lap I kept moving up where possible until I was in the leading group of about 7 by the end of the lap. The 2nd lap I kept a high pace staying in touch with the leaders and then forming a group of 3 with Yorben van Tichelt and Isaac Mundy. On lap 5 I had a puncture not long after the pits so lost touch with Isaac Mundy through the 4×4 section and woods but when I changed bikes I started chasing back to him. His chain then came off as I was about to catch him so I put in an effort to try and get a gap, which then stuck for the last 2 laps so I finished 5th overall. It feels great this season to be able to race with pros like Ian Field and Braam Merlier and to have had a top 10 finish in all 5 rounds so far. Yesterday I was 2nd U23 and 2nd Brit overall which I’m really happy with.
