Following on from the success of 2016, LCCC decided to invite applications for a Bursary to help those members who would like financial support from LCCC and it’s sponsor Zipvit. Neil sent an email to all registered members via the BC website informing them of the scheme and it’s closing date. The Bursary sub committee have approved 6 applications.
2017 Supported Riders
Emile has numerous development goals over the next 12 months.
These involve road, track and cyclo cross disciplines:
Regional Track Omniums – given the depth of local competition and with only four qualification places up for grabs, Emile acknowledges it will be difficult to qualify for the Nationals but will nevertheless be giving these his best shot and will try to make life very difficult for the favourites.
West Midlands Youth Circuit Series – Missing the first event due to injury and experiencing a puncture in the second event, Emile has had some initial bad luck in this series. He hopes to do much better in the remaining rounds.
National Road Series – Again Emile punctured in the first event at Hog Hill. However, after an excellent performance in the Youth Tour of Scotland (9th), Emile hopes to carry this form into the next stage races at The Isle of Man and NWYT.
National Trophy (CX): Emile has high hopes in the Autumn and at the National in the New Year.
I enjoy and compete in many cycling disciplines, this includes road, cyclo-cross, and track.
Cyclo-cross is where I’m most successful coming top 10 in some nationals last season. As I will be a top year u16 next season, I aim to improve on these in results in the national trophy series and in the national champs when the season starts again in September.
I really enjoy the excitement of track racing and I’m looking forward to competing in the 4 regional omnium races at Halesowen, Derby, Newcastle and Wolverhampton in April and May. As a first year u16 this season I am hoping to get some consistent results and take any opportunities that arise within the races to try to have an impact on the race.
So far this has been one of my most enjoyable road seasons. I have already learnt so much this season from racing at round 1 of the national series at Hog Hill and at the Youth Tour of Scotland. In u16 racing this season I’m really enjoying the added team tactics in regional races as well as the challenge of the much longer national races.
My goals for the next year revolve mostly around road racing as this is where I prefer racing and have already proven myself as a national level rider.
National road series: I appreciate that as a first year under 16 in an extremely competitive category it is not going to be easy against older riders. However, I still plan to race most of the 2017 series to gain valuable experience in longer, more tactical races. I also hope to pick up some series points for top 20 finishes.
I have already really enjoyed representing Lichfield CCC at the Youth Tour of Scotland this year.
West Midlands Circuit Series: I aim to race in as many West Midlands regional races as possible and my aim is to finish in the top 5 overall series standings.
West Midlands Cyclo Cross League: I plan to race regional cyclo cross races this year and my aim is to finish top 5 in races and the series overall.
I have been competing regionally, nationally and internationally during the last year as a supported rider and hope to continue this throughout the year.
This is my main discipline and last season I was selected to ride for GB in some world cup races and the European Championships and came 5th in the National Championships. Next season as a 2nd year junior I hope to compete in more of these international races having gained great experience last year. I will also be doing the National Championships along with the National Trophy series and some West Midlands regional races.
I really enjoy road racing in the summer but unfortunately due to illness I haven’t been able to train or race as much as I would like this season. However I will hopefully be able to do some regional circuit and road races and possibly a couple of the national junior series races to fit around my GCSE exams.
My main priority racing wise for 2017 will be MTB as I will be top year Youth.
My targets are:
BC National Ranking: top 5;
BC National Championships: top 5;
BC National Series: top 5 overall & a national podium placing;
Midlands MTB Championships: Win;
Midlands MTB Series: Win
I will be taking my GCSE’s during the MTB Race Season so I may have to miss a couple of races depending on my exam schedule. However, my current intention is to race at the following events:
BC National Series: Rd 1 02/04/17 Pembrey, S Wales; Rd 2 23/04/17 Wasing Park, Berkshire; Rd 3 14/05/17 Aske Forest, Richmond; Rd 4 11/06/17 Dalby Forest, Yorkshire; Rd 5 06/08/16 Builth Wells, Mid Wales.
BC National Championships: 23/07/17 Cannock Chase.
Midland MTB XC Series: 18/03; 09/04; 21/05; 24/06.
Update 19/05/17: It’s all going well, I’ve had 2 National MTB Podium finishes and I’m currently 2nd in the National Series and rankings, I’ve also won 2 Midlands XC races.
